New Bio? Who this?

After a recent event and a few conversations, I’ve decided to do an artist statement/bio update!

Honestly it’s time anyways as ceramics has become such a large part of my business this year and I don’t see that changing.

So here we go:

Charming and whimsical critter illustrations, Rachel Dyck plays with nostalgia and makes it quirky. Originally being inspired by the Victorian storybooks, like Peter Rabbit that Rachel grew up with; she uses all facets of life (the good, the bad, and the cozy) to create illustrations with a story.

More recently, Rachel has been experimenting with ceramics. The evolution from 2D to 3D objects has given her a renewed sense of creativity and inspiration. Rachel is enjoying the purposeful nature of her pottery, creating pieces that accompany those quiet daily moments you take for yourself.

The Critter Co (Formerly know as Blossom & SweetPea Critter Co) has been a passion project since 2014 and I hope to be able to continue creating what I love for many years to come.

Rachel Dyck graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Art from Trinity Western University in 2012. She started her greeting card business in 2014. In 2016 she decided to go back to school for Graphic design and attended Sir Sandford Fleming College.

And done! Doing an artist statement in 3rd person is always weird feeling 😆, but it can also allow me to word things in a slightly different way then I would for social media. It’s good to switch things up occasionally!
